The first few days of digital photography Mr. Bush already let us walk around the school and take pictures. My first impression was shocked because of how much freedom we got. In middle school we were not allowed to leave the teachers sight, so this really limited the types of pictures we could take. We also spent most the time in middle school sitting and learning how to take pictures. In this class we learned lots about how to take pictures, but we also got to walk around and actually take them, which I really enjoyed. In this class I didn't expect to learn so much about the computer technology. I thought we would only learn about photo taking skills. I knew nothing about photoshop or how to work it in the beginning of this class, but now I understand how to use many of the tools. I learned how to organize and download photos from the camera on to the computer. These things can be helpful outside of the class, in everyday life. I know much more about computers than I thought I would learn in this class. This is one of my first photos from the first assignment. You can tell it's not a good photo even if you aren't a photographer. The lighting is too bright and it is whitewashing the flower and the background. I wasn't using the correct aperture or shutter speed. The photo isn't in focus either and it doesn't have a good subject. These are three pictures I took more towards the end of the class. They are better quality overall. The lighting is better because I knew how to properly adjust my settings when I took these. They are also more focused. I knew how to edit these in photoshop too which helped.

In this assignment Mr. Bush rode past us on his bike and we had to take pictures of him. He was supposed to be clear in the picture, and the background was blurry. I learned that you have to move the camera before and after the picture to get the blur. I also learned it's easier to take motion pictures on a cloudy day because when it's sunny, they are very over exposed.
For this assignment we had to photoshop multiple pictures of someone to make it look like there are four of the same person in a picture. To do the assignment you had to take a separate picture for each time the person moved. Then we put them into photoshop, each photo as their own layer. We used the lasso tool to cut each one out. Then we adjusted it so it was all one layer, and we could edit it that way. I changed the white balance so it wasn't yellow.
For this photo assignment I shot black and white. I went to Ann Arbor to get some architecture pictures because usually buildings look good with black and white. I used a mix of pictures I took recently and some I took a while ago, and turned them black and white. I tried to use pictures that did not have a lot of color in them so it wasn't taking away from the photo. In this assignment we got to choose a tutorial to make in photoshop. Mine didn't have a specific theme, it was just different light technics. First I made the light source that looks like the sun. I used the brush tool to make that. I also used the brush tool to apply the colored splotches. I used the pen tool to create the line light rays coming out of the sun, which is a tool I hadn't used before. I also used the gradient tool which I had not used before. I added the fairy sitting on the bubble in the bottom corner.
The tutorial I used: http://www.photoshopstar.com/effects/mythical-scenery-photoshop/ For this photo assignment my subject was shadow and light. I went to downtown Ann Arbor because they always have interesting things to shoot. I wanted to go to the park to get pictures of the shadows on the leaves and I found some people making bubbles, so I shot some pictures of those. It was sunny so the lighting was great for this assignment. For this assignment we had to take a photo in the school and then alter it in photoshop to change the context. I took a picture of the library handmade it look like there was an aquarium above the kids heads. I added fish, a sea turtle, a shark, and some dolphins in it. I also added a couple pointing up at the fish. The hardest part was finding pictures to use that didn't have the website marked over the photo.
In this assignment we had to take 3-4 pictures to make into a panoramic picture. We had to use tripods because the photos had to be lined up correctly for it to work. You had to move the camera slightly after each photo to include more to the image. The computer stitched the photos together for us but I cropped mine for a cleaner edge. I learned just how much to move the camera after each photo for it to work. I also learned how to upload them to photoshop. For this assignment I had to take pictures of architecture. I went downtown Ann Arbor to get the pictures because they have lots of interesting, old, buildings. The sky was white because of all the clouds so I had to turn up the vibrance in a lot of my photos. I learned that getting some of the nature and colorful leaves in the picture brightened up the duller colored buildings. For this assignment we had to take a photo using window light and light bulb light. We had to use a piece of paper to reflect light onto the subject for the window light picture. I learned how to set my camera to take pictures for booth situations.
